Job Responsibilities:
- -Perform skilled repairs and maintenance on gasoline and diesel engines, including engine overhauls, brake and suspension work, electrical system repairs, and clutch replacements
- -Operate and document a preventive maintenance program, keeping detailed records of all work performed on vehicles and equipment
- -Repair power equipment and tools such as compressors, jackhammers, and mowers.
- -Order and manage parts inventory, prepare and maintain repair records, and assist in developing vehicle specifications
- -Operate vehicles for snow removal and sanding during winter, plowing, and perform emergency highway operations as needed.
- -Ensure safe practices in vehicle servicing, maintain a daily log of activities, and update the DPW Computer Maintenance and Management System
- -Involves skilled maintenance and repair of all department vehicles and equipment, as well as the upkeep of the garage.
- -Works under the general supervision of the Superintendent and Division Foreman, with significant autonomy in decision-making regarding vehicle maintenance and repairs.
Job Qualifications:
- -High school diploma with additional technical or vocational training in mechanics
- 5+ years of experience in gas, diesel, and hydraulic repair work, or any equivalent combination of education and experience
- -Valid CDL B license with airbrake endorsement required
- -Valid Hoisting license required
- -Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing motor vehicles, operating heavy equipment, and using mechanic’s tools
- -Ability to lift/move objects, climb ladders, and operate tools and vehicles for extended periods, especially during snow emergencies.
